The Day TV Turned 50… Channel Nine’s 50th Birthday…
Saturday 16 September 2006, Channel Nine turned 50.
TCN9 in Sydney was officially opened as Australia’s first TV channel, however unofficially GTV9 in Melbourne was on air first still in test transmission mode and had a special licence so it could broadcast the 1956 Melbourne Olympics.
Channel Seven has been running special station promos from the past celebrating the 50th year.




Channel Nine has been running its 50 years promo’s as well.


Australia’s Funnyest Home Videos also had a party to celebrate and a chat to Bert Newton and had a cake for the event.
