Steve Irwin Memorial Service…

Today was Steve Irwin’s memorial service held at Australia Zoo, and was broadcasted on the ABC, Channel Seven and Channel Nine live from 9am, with Channel Nine repeating it at 5pm and then again at 6:30pm, ABC at 6pm and Channel Seven & Ten broadcasting highlights, Seven at 5pm and Ten at 5:30pm.

The ABC didn’t do anything special they just showed the telecast, while Channel Seven crossed from their morning breakfast program
Sunrise to Simon Reeve, then to the telecast. Channel Nine had a 30 minute pre-telecast program with Ray Martin and Sharyn Ghidell outside of Australia Zoo, as part of the Today show.

The memorial started off with Russel Crowe giving his own tribute from
New York via video, then proceeded with a 60 second countdown. The first to speak was Prime Minister John Howard who said that Steve had two loves, and they were the love of his family, and the love for his country.

Next was a performance by John Williamson, who apparently is Steve’s favourite singer. The memorial was then hosted by Anthony Field (The Blue Wiggle) who showed the time when Steve featured in one of their songs and the making of the video clip, while also throughout the service clips of Steve were shown.

Tributes then followed from Cameron Diaz, Wes Mannion (Steve’s best mate), Larry King, Kevin Costner, John Stainton (Steve’s manager, producer and director), Kelly Ripa, Clark Bunting, Bob Irwin (Steve’s Dad), Justin Timberlake, and Hugh Jackman.

Then the moment most people were waiting for when Bindi Irwin came out and said a few words of her own.

Then as the end drew near, Steve’s truck was driven out of the Crocoseum with a guard of honour created by his crocodile handlers, while at the same time John Williamson sang once again as well as other employees laying down flowers to spell the word Crikey.

  1. I am a mother of 6 young children 5 girls and 1 boy, ages 13 down to 2. Their Daddy died while he was working, he fell off of my parents’ roof while repairing it. I was left a widow at 31 years old with 6 children, but that was 3 years ago and I want you to know that God is good and your children will help you get through. I cannot lie this PAIN in your heart will never lighten. You will be able to turn your pain into ENERGY to go on and make your children be the best at all you and your husband wanted for them. God Bless you Terri and I will be praying for you and your family. Someday when God makes all His plans clear to us and we all meet our destiny we will all be reunited with our soul mates, together with our LOVED ones. Take care and hold your head up for those beautiful children that you and Steve brought into this world. Caring Widow, Theresa Hnatko

  2. Dear Terri, I to am a widow and even though it has been five years since my prince charming died, it seems like yesterday and yet it seems like he has been gone foever. I am so beside myself with grief for you and all your family and friends. I too loved you and your dear husband for all you have done for the animals and our world. You and Steve inspired me to start up a non-profit animal rescue foundation, something I never would have done without your wonderful message of doing something to change the world. It has helped me deal with the loss of my husband. I want you to know that you are an amazing person and I thank you for allowing myself and the world the honor of witnessing the true love you shared with Steven and reminding us that true love does exsist and the pain of losing such love is unspeakable but the love of and for our children is what
gets us through. Thank you for being my hero. Melinda Nelson
