Tonight Channel Nine Melbourne aired a special presentation from National Nine News about convicted murderer and underworld figure Carl Williams who today was given a life sentence with the opportunity for prole in 35 years time. The show was presented by Melbourne National Nine News presenter Peter Hitchener along with other reporters.

Peter then crossed live to Brett McLeod at Barwon Prison for his report on what would have happened to Carl on arrival to the prison.

Brett then crossed over to a report filed by Rachael Rollo earlier in the day on what happened outside the court house.

Darren Lunny then interviewed Paul Coghlan, QC the Director of Public Prosecutions.

Peter was then taken on a tour of the prison with Kelvin Anderson, Corrections Commissioner.

Adam Shand then had an ‘exclusive’ interview with Carl Williams parents.

Finally Brett McLeod and Nick Coe had a look back at the history of the underworld war in Melbourne.
