SBS Digital Name Change…

SBS will re-name its digital services, taking effect from Monday June 4th. This will mean that digital television users will need to re-scan their channel’s for the name change to take effect. The official press release from SBS below…

What’s happening to the SBS Digital Channels?

The SBS digital channel names are changing in an effort to reduce confusion about channel content and function. The new names will help to clearly identify each channel (see table below) so consumers can access the services they want.

When will the changes take place?

The digital channel name changes will take effect from June 4, 2007 at 11.30am.

So what does it mean for SBS viewers?

Viewers will need to rescan their set top boxes (if it does not rescan automatically) or digital TVs. Consumers about to purchase a new set top box or digital TV should also be aware of the changes so they can tune into the SBS services they want.

How do I rescan my digital television or set top box?

Different set top boxes and different digital TVs require different methods of rescanning the channels. Check the manual for your digital television or set top box, or call the manufacturer or retailer you purchased it from, for more specific instructions.

Will it take long?

It will depend on which set top box or digital TV you have. As a guide, it could take up to 10 minutes.

What can I see on SBS Digital Channels?

SBS and SBS HD carry the same content as the SBS analogue channel, but in a digital format (Standard Definition and High Definition respectively). SBS 2 usually carries the same content as the SBS main channel. When extra information is available, such as Sports Highlights, these will be broadcast on SBS 2 instead of the content on the main channel. SBS 2 is Standard Definition.

SBS News, formerly known as SBS Digital 2, is the World News Channel which broadcasts foreign language news from around the world. SBS News is a Standard Definition channel.
