My Night At Surprise Surprise Gotcha…

Tonight I went in the audience of the new show on Channel Nine called surprise surprise gotcha hosted by Matt Tilly and Jackie O.

The show is exactly the same as the first series, and in-case you don’t know what the show is about it is about setting up celebrities and filming them without their knowledge.

This episode I attended was the 5th episode and featured Brodie Holland (Collingwood Football Player), Giann Rooney, an old sketch with Caterina Rowntree and Ben Dark. Overall the show is not too bad for a bit of a chuckle, but I don’t really see it lasting.

Things to expect if you are going to be in the audience:

In a surprise move, on the way into the studio they were offering Victoria Bitter and both red and white wine (my initial thought was because the show would be so crap they needed everyone to be pissed).

Be prepared to be embarrassed… Why? Well as I experienced first hand, I was pulled up onto the set by the producer Michael Pope and was asked to pretend to be Jackie O… I wont say anymore on that, however if anyone requests to know I might decided to state what happened haha.

Overall its a pretty good evening and a lot of fun, but do expect to get a numb bottom from sitting in the one spot for quite a while.

Update: response from comment below…

Well to start off with I’m not a very confident person especially in front of a 200 people audience, but the idea was that the audience ‘needed’ to practice on their clapping and cheering routine and so (as we were sitting in the front row) a bloke who was two down from me was asked to get up and pretend to be Matt Tilly, and at this point I was thinking oh god no please don’t get me up. Of course Michael (producer) looks at me and goes ‘and you can be our Jackie O’, so I got up and the two of us went to the end of the set where we had to walk in as if we were Matt and Jackie coming out to start the show. Naturally at this point I’m thinking that he’s going to want me to walk like a woman. So to practice to start off with he gets me to walk out on my own and I just walked normally and was stopped by Michael who told me I need to walk like I’m a woman. So I then go back to try again and for some reason I put my head down while walking out, and he stopped me again saying that Jackie is a confident woman and wouldn’t walk looking down and also as she comes out she would tend to give the audience a bit of a wave. So I turned around and walked back shaking my arse a little which got a bit of a laugh. I then walked out again facing the crowd while I walked with a huge grin showing my teeth and waving at the same time. Then I went back for a final time so that the two of us could walk out together and the audience had to clap and cheer, and when we got to the centre of the stage, we had to start to pretend to talk to the camera so the audience applause could slowly tone down.

So that was my experience at trying to be Jackie O. I think I remained bright red for the next hour after that.

Then Jackie O came out and Michael told her that I had just been impersonating her and he wanted me to get up again, but luckily for me the show was ready to start recording, so I got off the hook that time…

  1. Can you please tell us what happened when you pretend to be Jackie O?

  2. HAHA I was hoping no-one would ask! I’ll say what happened at the end of this post, so look above.

  3. Oh god.. Michael Pope also embarrased me on THE NATION set.. I asked why there isnt more Nikki Osborne on the show? and so then later on he brings her out to meet me and she knew who I was from emails etc… and then when the show ended he pushed me to go out the back with her and I got to meet her and have a good old chat for like 10 mins! so it turned out pretty good :p
