APEC Day 1 Coverage…

Day one of APEC the coverage was mostly centred around the activities of US president George W. Bush. As reported earlier in the day the ABC, Seven and Nine broke regular programing to show John Howard and George Bush’s press conference live.

The Afternoon News:

Channel Seven’s, Seven News had the most extensive coverage with roughly ten minutes focusing on the APEC summit while National Nine News spent around five minutes on it.

Seven had three reporters out on location and the transition between the three was fantastic by Samantha Armytage with the focus not just being on George Bush as was the case with Nine, but they also crossed to Canberra for coverage on the Chinese president.

The Evening News:

Ten News was first off and opened with a report by Paul Bongiorno followed by a live cross to Sydney to speak with Paul.

This time for the evening news of Seven vs Nine, it was Nine who came out on top with the more extensive coverage on the APEC summit, although to Seven’s credit they did cover it a lot better with a live cross to Chris Reason live in Sydney.

A Current Affair done a quick live cross…

SBS World News Australia focused on the new security treaty signed by the two leaders this morning.

Finally by far the best coverage of all the networks is that done by the ABC, who crossed live to Jim Middelton in Sydney in what I presume all state ABC bulletins did at the same time as he had a slight pause before he started talking.
