Only recently the Seven Network was spruiking how great their coverage will be for the upcoming 2008 Olympic Games in Beijing, only to just learn now that they have lost the right to broadcast the games for the 2010 Vancouver Winter Olympic Games and the 2012 London Summer Olympic Games.
Arch rival the Nine Network partnered with pay television operator Foxtel have secured the rights to the games, promising to have the most comprehensive coverage ever seen on Australian Television. Nine CEO David Gyngell said that this will enable Nine to take another step towards reclaiming its crown as Australia’s number one television channel.
“We believe the London Olympics will be a great event - London is a solid cultural fit with our viewing audiences and will achieve strong ratings particularly with the historical links in sporting and cultural terms between Australia and the United Kingdom,” he said.
Foxtel is promising outstanding coverage also with extra channels to complement…
“Not only will FOXTEL provide dedicated extra channels, we will broadcast many elements of our coverage in high definition, which together with the FOXTEL iQ disc drive set-top units, FOXTEL Mobile and Broadband will give our subscribers the ultimate control, choice and personalisation of how they watch the Olympics,” he said.

Go for it 9 & Fox, you can’t make any worse a job of it than 7 has this time around. I actually took two weeks off of work to watch the “coverage” as I am an olympics addict, assure me that in four years time I should do the same.

Please please take the rights away from channel 7, they’re doing such a bad job I cant stand it, dont make the same mistake please replay swimming 20 times a day rather than showing events that’s being played live

It’s about time somebody does olympic coverage justice. This has been the worst olympic coverage I have ever seen. To think with all the technology and HD and all that and to have Channel 7 (and SBS) hardly broadcast anything live, and only Australian-athlete events is ridiculous. So much advertising and montage sequences…show the actual events.
Good riddance and bring on the new players.

Please listen to all the comments about what a terrible job channel 7 has done and give us lots of live sport in 2012. I know there will be ads but plan them well and don’t interrupt play in the middle, wait for breaks. I know it can’t be any worse than theirs but I would love to be able to enjoy the Olympics again!
