IT IS ON! 2007 Federal Election - Mr Howard vs Mr Rudd, Who Will Win?

Sunday 14th October 2007 is the day where John Howard took a short drive to go and visit the Governor General to advise him of an up-coming election campaign. The election will be held on Saturday November 24 which means Australian’s must endure a six week election campaign.

More importantly for What’s On The Tube, how was the announcement covered by the networks? There were three players who went with the press conference of John Howard live and they were the ABC, Seven and Nine, with SBS not blinking an eye and Ten in the middle of its Moto GP coverage.

Earlier in the morning the ABC and Seven crossed live to John Howard entering the Governor Generals compound with Nine also crossing live during there Sunday telecast with Laurie Oaks.

Seven’s coverage was hosted by Sydney newsreader Chris Bath and she was joined by Seven Political Editor Mark Riley live from Canberra.

Nine’s coverage was hosted by Mike Munro who was also joined by Nine Political Editor Laurie Oaks who was also live in Canberra.

The ABC coverage was hosted by Felicity Davey and she was also joined live from Canberra by the ABC Chief Political Correspondent Jim Middelton.

The coverage all started out the same with the networks, however Seven left the press conference early when the questions started and went back to their movie. Nine and the ABC continued to air the reporters questions and the answers and Nine was next to resume normal broadcasting followed by the ABC a short time later.

Now stay tuned for Kevin Rudd’s reply…
