2007 Emirates Melbourne Cup…

The first Tuesday in November is when Australia’s premier race is run, the 5 million dollar Emirates Melbourne Cup and the Seven Network is the home of the prestigious coverage.

I have personally been a huge fan with the way Seven present major event’s and this is no exception. The above four images are from the opening sequence produced for the cup and the entirety can be viewed in the video below which I highly recommend.

Seven’s coverage as per usual was hosted by Bruce McAvaney who was joined by racing expert Richard Freeman and former jockey Simon Marshall. They were also joined by Seven personalities as roving reporters and Pat Walsh who is Seven’s bookie and spends the day in the betting ring. The day’s coverage kicked off at 10am Australian Eastern Daylight Time, featuring all races run for the day with the big race starting at 3pm.

2:15pm was when the “pre-race entertainment” got underway with the Melbourne Cup Trophy brought in by an Australian bicycle rider who finished second in the Tour le France, followed by a musical performance, the introduction of the jockey’s and the Australian National Anthem sung by Delta Goodrem.

Then it was time for the big race and the winner was the Lloyd Williams owned horse Efficient.

Then it was time for presentations, and the master of ceremonies’ for the day was Sandy Roberts.

In addition to this, Melbourne’s Seven News as well as Today Tonight were presented from Flemington Racecourse.

More images will be placed in the Seven Archive, the archive can be found here.
