Nine Network Told To Hand Over Underbelly Tapes…

feature photo

The Victorian Supreme Court has ordered the Nine Network to hand over all thirteen episodes of their new hopeful hit series Underbelly two days before it is to air on the network.

The Office of Public Prosecutions (OPP) has subpoenaed tapes of the 13 episode series, to be viewed by Supreme Court Justice Betty King and lawyers for the alleged killer and the OPP.

The reasoning behind all this is because the lawyers for the accused who cannot be named, believe that as a result of the television series he will not get a fair trial. However if the series was not allowed to go to air, it would only affect Victorian viewers with the series either not going to air in the state or an edited version will go to air meaning Victorians will miss out on certain parts of the show.

Brendan Murphy from the Nine Network would not hand over the tapes originally saying that the series had not been complete and was still being edited as well as being reviewed by the networks lawyers. He goes on to say that an edited version of the show will air in Victoria, so it is more than likely the show will go ahead on Wednesday night.

The subpoena states that copies of two completed episodes, along with uncut versions of the other 11 episodes, plus episode outlines and story lines, must be handed to the court by 10am on Monday.

The series will air on Nine from Wednesday at 8:30, and What’s On The Tube will have a post about the show that night. Either in its edited or unedited version.
