Blu-ray Wins The High Definition DVD Format War…
Sony’s High Definition DVD format Blu-ray has prevailed over the rival format HD-DVD which was crated by Toshiba. Blu-ray has been increasing in popularity with a host of distribution companies such as Warner Bros only releasing their titles on Blu-ray discs.
Toshiba’s president and chief executive, Atsutoshi Nishida, said today that after a thorough review of its strategy, the company had decided a swift end to the format war would help the HD market.
So what does this mean then for the consumer? Well quite simply now that one format has been ‘the chosen one’ consumers can now buy with confidence in the ever growing High Definition market. Now you can head out and buy your favourite television shows on Blu-ray DVD and not have to worry about the format becoming obsolete.

“High Definition DVD” is HD DVD. Blu-Ray isn’t actually DVD at all, just optical disc format.
Just saying…
