Downunder Grads…
Downunder Grads is a new four part series screening on SBS which will follow the lives of university students at the University of Queensland, narrated by Deborah Mailman who you may know from The Secret Life of Us.
The series looks at the university life through the eyes of first year students and how this university life will effect their studies, from student unions to incurring HECS debts to being a full fee paying student and accommodation needs.
It’s the start of the semester at one of Australia’s top universities and 37,000 students, are about to embark on their studies. University is make or break time; a time that can change people forever. From free education in the 1980s to HECS fee debt and a large increase in full fee paying students, university education is now big business.
Through a variety of character stories this four-part series explores the contemporary Australian university experience of both international and Australian students from a range of different backgrounds.
This is a very interesting observational series as many people would be unaware of the pressures facing university students in this day and age. Of course many peoples experiences will differ from that being shown in this series depending on the cultures and other factors of certain universities, but their is no doubt that this is a great insight into university life.
Downunder Grads can be seen on SBS, Wednesday night’s at 8pm.
