Michael Palin’s New Europe…
Another documentary airing on the Seven Network at the moment is called Michael Palin’s New Europe, which takes a stunning look at twenty countries in Western Europe who are overcoming war torn situations. With the amount of ABC/BBC programming on Seven lately, you would be forgiven for thinking that ABC3 has been launched. However it is good to see Seven investing in quality programming such as this series. It was unfortunate to see that the first episode only attracted a small audience, but please do tune in next week because this is truly a great series showcasing countries we so rarely hear about when it comes to travel.
The first episode in this series is titled War and Peace and will explore the countries who were once apart of the greater Yugoslavia. Michael Palin will start his journey up in Slovenia and make his way down through Croatia, Bosnia, Serbia and finally Albania.
It is amazing how close these five countries are and also how close their proximity is to mainstream Europe at how different they all are. All these countries are re-building after being at war during the 90’s from the break-up of the Soviet Union, but the interesting thing is the progress of each. Croatia is booming in comparison to Albania where it still looks like a chaotic war zone.
Michael Palin’s technique of getting personal with the people of the country is another draw card to this great series where you can tell he is enjoying himself and not just putting it on for the camera, like certain Australian travel shows where ratings are plummeting.
If you enjoy this series and can’t wait for all the episodes to screen on Seven, then take advantage of it already being on DVD. I won’t lie, the price of the series will break the budget, but then again if you enjoy it that much then why not? You can buy the whole series on DVD, look under the BBC section in the shops or you can buy it from Sanity by clicking the Buy Now! link in the above post. This show is now not airing on Seven anymore.

What has happened 7.30pm Saturday night Channel 7 in Perth?
I thought because of the extra footie match for Anzac Day the night before it may have been pushed out the way, but next weekend’s program is also missing from the tv guides.
Surely we are not going get it in “blocks of” episodes - only 7 parts -I am trusting you to show it as advertised asap - it’s bad enough that the 1 hour show takes 1.20mins because of the breaks, but to just stop it without a publicised explanation seems like it is not up your alley. I await with bated breath…….

The show has been cancelled, it will no longer be on Seven (for the time being anyway).
