What’s On The Tube: An Update…
I’m just writing this post to keep those of you who may be regulars informed about what has been going on recently and why the site is lacking content this week.
Tuesday night while doing my regular everyday tasks, this particular one being my banking, my computer decided it had enough and crashed. So I am without my computer which basically had everything I accumulated over the years and this included videos, images for the archive and other images for the site as well ass some programs that I use to keep this blog/site running.
The latest word I got today is that the hard drive has basically packed it in and I have lost everything. So what does this mean for the site?
Well at the end of the day it wont be a big deal for the site it will still live on, just this message here is to make aware that there wont be any new content until hopefully mid next week, but I really want to try and find an alternative or a way to cover Monday night’s Big Brother launch if I don’t have my computer back.
This week I had planned to cover the It Takes Two final, have a bit of a funny review of the program Cheaters (which I will still do in the near future) and have a look at tomorrow’s Anzac Day coverage. Next week we have the start of Big Brother on Network Ten as well as the start of a new series of Australia’s Got Talent on Tuesday night which hopefully I’ll be back up and running for in time.
In the mean time everythig else is running as normal, comments will be still moderated (in the evening so don’t stress if it doesn’t appear I have to approve it first) and e-mails will be looked at and replied to where nessesary, so thank you to all you regulars.
While I’m at it here and with the recent events of above, this might be a good time for a refreshed site. I will keep the same theme/layout because I think it works well but this could be a good time to change colour schemes as their has been a mention the yellow and orange is not good on the eyes. I’m no graphic designer so I will try my best to come up with something simple and viewable. Also by all means use this post to leave any suggestions you might like to add or even e-mail me, I’m always open to any ideas to improve things around here.
So thank you once again, this is the end of my ‘update’, down below I’m going to keep on ranting on about what happened to my computer so if your not interested in that you may wish to click on an appropriate link (haha)
Thanks…
Well what happened, I sure this has happened to many people so if it has I sympathise with you. I was well aware that my computer wasn’t going to last for too much longer as I was most likely working it too hard for what it is made for. I had started to have problems a week before hand when I installed Microsoft Office Ultimate Edition, Internet Explorer started to go all weird on me so instead I had to start using Firefox (which I apparently should use anyway the tech heads would probably say) and that worked fine.
Then Tuesday night I came onto the net like I usually do and was going to check up on my finances with a little internet banking, when the site loaded the screen changed to a blue colour with white writing which I didn’t have time to read, then the computer turned off and restarted.
It started in the usual fashion with the Acer logo and went to a black screen with white writing saying opperating system cannot be found, so my natural reaction was to panic and want to kick the absolute crap out of everything.
Then I turned it off and tried to restart it again but it would just halt at a blank black screen. A friend told me to then try it again and push F3 continuously and follow the instructions. There were two options, I think the first one was to start Windows Vista so I selected that and it just done the black screen thing again. The other option was for some sort of Windows diagnostic memory thing (don’t ask me what that is) so I selected that and it started to scann the computer in two stanges, so I though here we go some hope.
The process got to 99% and stayed there for a while, then eventually said that it cannot find my opperating system and I needed to insert the Windows installation disc and do a system repair. So I inserted the disc, spins around in the drive and well thats about it, wouldn’t read it or anything just went back to that no famous black screen.
Conclusion… SCREWED…
I took it down the the local computer show where I explained all of the above where the response was “oooh not good”. I then find out today that they cannon recover it and I will need a brand new hard drive meaning I have lost everything.
So I thought lets turn this negative into a positive, the computer has a 160GB hard drive which was pretty much at capacity all the time, so lets get one thats 200GB. Apparently they dont make them at 200GB so the option was for a 250GB hard drive, so even better.
The hard drive will end up costing $180 and for them to install Windows for me again another $80, grand total of $260. Which is a whole lot better than purchasing a new computer which I badly need consideringwhat I use it for to get the content for this site.
While I was there I decided to ask about upgrading the memory, because I might as well considering the machine is already there.
I said earlier that I think I worked the computer too hard, well the reason I said that is because In order to gain the images and sometimes videos I need to do a lot of recording and some of this recording involves High Definition television which puts a lot of strain on the computer.
What I had or still have is 1GB of memory which computer experts will say that is not nearly enough to be doing what I do, so I want to try and upgrade that to 2GB, even still I bet I will be told that is still not enough, but I’m a student I don’t exactly have unlimited funds at my disposal so it will have to do.
Anyway that’s my story, hope I didn’t bore anyone, and once again thank’s for visiting…
Bye.
