Ban Lifted On Underbelly Mum’s Today Tonight Story…
As we all know by now the saga over the Underbelly trial has stopped the broadcasting of the popular television series in Victoria and it also caused a ban on a Today Tonight story featuring Judy Moran and Barbra Williams.
Tonight Victoria got to see that Today Tonight report featuring the two mums from the underworld gang wars, the two mums were interviewed separately then they came face to face for the first time telling there side of the story, the reporter was Claire Brady.
First of all it was Barbra Williams who spoke; she talked about what her son Carl Williams was like as a child and before he was shot by other gangland members, how he changed for the worse. She spoke about how Carl despised being around his brother because of his drug taking, but after he was shot he changed and started the manufacture and the taking of drugs himself.
Next it was a solo interview with Judy Moran saying the underworld wars have left her with no family, with no real opinion on Barbra Williams she says that she feels sorry for her as she is also a mother but didn’t like the suggestion that it was her son that started the war by shooting Carl Williams.
Barbra and Judy then met formally for the first time with Judy initiating a hand shake with Barbra who reluctantly returned the favour. The body language of the two woman indicated that Barbra didn’t particularly want to be present at the interview, Judy on the other hand looked quite relaxed.
For the duration of the interview Judy was on the attack on how the war between the families and the underworld in general started, not in an aggressive way but in quite a calm way. Barbra didn’t establish much eye contact during the interview preferring to look the opposite direction or to the floor and quite defensive in her answers blaming other parties as the fault of most things. For Today Tonight this was quite a well done and professional interview and Claire Brady conducted herself in a respectful and professional manner, some of those words you wouldn’t normally use in the same sentence as “Today Tonight”.
On a side note, I never watch Today Tonight in all honesty I prefer A Current Affair to get all of my trashy news, so I was surprised to see a weather segment at the end of the show. Below is the Melbourne/Victorian weather, I presume this is done for every territory differently.
