Trading Post Ad Banned…
In what is a very bazaar move indeed a television ad for the Trading Post has been banned from airing because it is too violent, while in contrast the Australian Advertising Standards Bureau has allowed a billboard for Cockatoo Ridge wine continue with Erin McNaught suggesting she loves a males sexual organs.
The ad in question shows a young boy who goes around pushing his sister, a door, a kitchen table, his fathers leg and throws the family cat, then his father decides that he has just the solution to fix the problem. Because the boy likes to push things around the solution was to buy a swing set through the trading post so that he can push his sister on it.
The bureau acted on several public complaints that the ad was too violent, including one from a parent who said it had prompted copycat behaviour. “My son who is 2 1/2has seen this ad; since then he has done nothing but push people,” the unnamed complainant said.
This is simply outrageous that a very cleaver and simple ad such as this one can be banned, with the quote above from a parent like that it sounds more like this parent isn’t doing a responsible job and needs to blame a television ad for any troubles. I want to ask the question how far we can go when political correctness gets out of control, but I think we have reached that point well and truly. The billboard which was approved is far worse than any innocent ad such as this one, and while I’m not against that billboard either, the two are at the opposite ends of the spectrum.
If you haven’t seen the ad in question you can watch it below.

I agree it’s pretty lame that this ad gets banned. Where’s our sense of humour gone?
