Ten News Melbourne Gets A Facelift…
Tonight for the first time in five years Network Ten’s Melbourne news bulletin received a brand new news set. In addition to the new set the sport’s desk has been moved to the opposite end for something a little different.
Comparing the old with the new it is a vast improvement with the old set very dark and dull almost as if they were sitting in the pitch black, and just about the same colour as the on screen graphics it was too much. This new set looks fantastic in contrast with the lighter blue used which brightens up the whole place up better and it even makes the presenters more “presentable”.
With the move of the sport’s desk to the other end it gives the bulletin a less of a blokey image with Helen now separating Mal and Stephen. The city scape takes out some of the best known architectural elements of the city and places them all together.
I have not decided yet if I like the individual presenter shots yet it will take a few days to get used to, the part I’m still debating over is the half blue city background and the half brown material, with brown not a very inspiring colour but I’m sure it will grow on me.
Below is a small “highlights” video…
During the cross to sport Mal jokingly said “now settling into his new position on the news desk here’s Stephen with sport“, Mal and Stephen then exchanged a slight over exaggerated wave.
All up the set is 10 times better than the previous one but it still falls short of being something great, but a step in the right direction none the less. All that remains to be updated now is the on screen graphics and the look would be compete.

Is Ten Adelaide’s news still shot out of Melbourne? If so, are they also using the new set?

Yes it is still filmed in Melbourne, but they use a totally different set, because of the time difference the Adelaide bulletin will be starting half way through the Melbourne edition so they can’t use the same set.
