Where Has Million Dollar Wheel Of Fortune Gone?…
In case you haven’t heard the news Million Dollar Wheel of Fortune will not be on the air anymore starting from this week. Despite being one of the most popular items on this site, with the description of what went on at the Pilot Episode currently the 4th most popular post, the show has failed to find a big enough audience.
I cannot put into context how popular the interest was in the rejuvenation of the once popular game show with the amount of views on posts relating to the show as well as search engine searches to try and find out about anything related to the show. Never before have I been inundated with so many requests on how to become a contestant on a show before.
I wrote last week that the Celebrity version of the show seemed to be a last ditched attempt and a last minute decision as the shows were only recorded on the Saturday afternoon before they were to air. Usually episodes of game shows are recorded weeks in advance before their scheduled air time showing why I said that the celebrity concept appeared to be a last minute decision. By the end of the week even before the last show aired it was announced that Wheel would not be returning and that Antiques Roadshow would be its replacement making up an hour of the show, however this information has not been updated in TV Guides released today.
During the few weeks the show has aired there have been slight modifications made, the bottom of the wheel had been changed from a spiky looking exterior to a rounded one, and the projection screens behind the contestants were been taken away, replaced with a LED display which was the same for all contestants. I noticed during the celebrity week that Kelly had a lot more involvement in the show with a short statement before each puzzle, something to the affect of “I think this title will relate to you Tim”, which was quite good.
It appeared that both Tim and Kelly had settled into the show a lot more and the nervousness of the pair from week one had been overcome, which made the show flow a whole lot better. Million Dollar Wheel was actually entertaining for a game show but the problem was that it failed to find an audience from the on set and attracted the same low figures every night, most people sticking with rival Deal or No Deal.
Another problem was the extreme hurdles a contestant had to go through in order to win the $1 million prize money; clearly viewers could see that it was never going to go off.
