A Step In The Right Direction Nine!…

feature photo

.
Well I would like to take this opportunity to blow my own trumpet in regards to a suggestion I made last week and the new way National Nine News in Melbourne and around the country is being presented.

Last week with the opening to the East Link motorway Jo Hall presented the first block of the news standing-up with a live projection behind her showing the entrance of the new tunnels.

(from last week’s bulletin, with my simple suggestion on the right)

In a post I wrote over a week ago I was asked how I would try to fix Nine News, but those of you who may have read that post last week I added another section to the bottom in response to how last weekends bulletin was presented, basically saying that it looked great and put forward the suggestion that perhaps that even if it was just for the weekend bulletin Jo Hall should present standing-up just for something different.

Well in tonight’s bulletin Jo Hall has started to present the bulletin standing-up and from first impressions I think it looks great. In no way am I suggesting either that by me saying what I said last week is attributed to the change, I think it might be a case of coincidence I just want to make that clear.

I have never been a fan of the projection used in the Melbourne bulletin; the blue with Melbourne icons implanted into it but with Jo standing up and the larger graphical presence even makes it look nice on the eye. I was waiting in anticipation as to how the cross to sport would work and I think I went well, Heath O’Loughlin stood on Jo’s right or left of screen to say what would be coming up next.

I also really like how the National Nine News logo has been used in the background, the white background of the logo has been made transparent with the words given a “glassy” look. Once the sport segment started it was presented in the same fashion Jo presented before hand.

All up it is a big step in the right direction presentation wise, still that background does need to change but that is the least of their worries with this new look. I have promised three times I would look at the story order of news bulletins and that is still on the cards, I’ve just been a little ill.

Make your thoughts be heard on this slight change in presentation, yes or no what would you do to make it better or do you like that they were doing before?

  1. Damn, that looks good. I wonder if they do read your blog?
Anyway, just one thing, you know they don’t stand in front of a projection screen right? They’re on a green screen - and it gets keyed out.

  2. Oops. It looks like it’s actually a blue screen, there is a bit of blue spill onto the talents.

  3. I Like. I think it Should be Rolled out Nationally. One thing though: I think they need a glass stand for the presenters to put scripts on incase the Autocue Plays up. Just a Glass Stand with the Nine Logo or the NNN Logo. Otherwise, Thumbs up from Me!
