Sunday & Nightline Get The Chop!…
The Nine Network has today announced that its long running program Sunday which has been on our screens for 27 years will be no more after August 3rd, in addition to this tonight will be the final screening of the late night news service Nightline.
The Sunday program has been an institution in Australian television journalism back in the days when Jim Waley and then Jana Wendt fronted the program, but ever since 2006 the program has been going down hill in its story selection and more importantly down hill in the ratings battle with the Seven Network’s Weekend Sunrise beating it by large amounts.
Sunday will be replaced with a one hour news bulletin to start at 8am, with the majority of the staff in charge of producing the Nightline bulletin taking on this role, while staff from Sunday will be absorbed into the news and current affairs departments.
Nine’s head of news and current affairs John Westacott today said…
“Today’s realities impose much tougher cost and performance benchmarks across the media industry than those of the past”.
The final episode of Sunday will be on August 3 while your last chance to see Nightline will be tonight.
