Enough Rope With Gordon Ramsay…
Tonight was the series return of Enough Rope with Andrew Denton and the first guest for the new series was celebrity chef Gordon Ramsay which was recorded while on his recent trip to the country.
“Football, family, food, France, fame, fatherhood, fitness, Fortune and most importantly fork, all words that begin with F, all subjects we are about to discuss with Gordon Ramsay” is how the celebrity chef was introduced to the studio audience awaiting.
Ramsay spoke about his personal life and early career while at the same time battling to use his lost voice attained from his hectic Australian visit. He also unashamedly spoke about how he stole the girlfriend of his best mate, he cooked her a meal saying “I asked her if I could park my bike in her garage”, which attracted laughter from the audience and Denton, then he went on to say “no not like that”. This girlfriend then eventually turned into his wife, he also spoke about how at the age of 18 he slept with the wife of his then boss, who was about 30 years old, but as he said it “she was hot”.
On thing is for sure and that is Ramsay does not understand the fascination people and in particular Australian’s have with him. He talks about when two policemen in Sydney wanted to have a photo with him, to which he obliged, afterwards the police officers asked if he could tell them to f*%k off.
Ramsay also made several references to the French, one including about when he had a French girlfriend he said, “it was like having a Rottweiler attached too your chest”.
He was given three ingredients bacon, polenta and choko to which Denton says describing choco “it’s known as dunny fruit because it often grows on vines outside toilets”, to which Ramsay replies “it looks sort of like Shrek’s shit”.
They showed some footage from the TV series The F Word where Ramsay basically has a cook off with his mother while making apple pie. When the cooking was done the put the two pies side by side and Ramsay’s mother points out that her son hasn’t cooked the centre, so he had to re-cook it for longer. The result ended up going Ramsay’s way 2 to 1, but it illustrates that he is capable of making mistakes also, but to be shown up by his mum must have been a kick in the ego.
This was a great interview and a great way to start off the brand new series for 2008, we have already seen Wayne Carey interviewed so it is shaping up to be a big year for Enough Rope.
Enough Rope can be seen on Monday night’s 9:35pm on ABC1.
