Beijing 2008: Paralympic Games Opening Ceremony…
Still on a high after hosting the very successful Olympic Games the eyes of the world turned back onto Beijing to witness the Opening Ceremony of the 2008 Paralympic Games from Beijing’s National Stadium. This time round viewers can have the pleasure of not being interrupted by commercial breaks with the telecast coming live from Beijing on ABC1, ABC2 and ABC HD.
Adam Hills best known by his role on the ABC music quiz show Spicks and Specks hosted the coverage and was joined by former Paralympian Louise Savage and Karen Tighe.

The ceremony started off with a strange but unique countdown using fireworks to start counting from 60 seconds then with a child holding the number on a board. Once it was down to 10 seconds the same method used in the Closing Ceremony of the Olympic Games was used with fireworks counting down the numbers.
Coverage of the Paralympic Games can be seen on ABC2 and ABCHD with highlights on ABC1.
