When South Park Offends Russia…
I can see it now in a future episode, they have taken on Canada many times before but the next target of the South Park boys will no doubt be Russia after prosecutors in the country have tried to ban the show from going to air calling it extremist.
Since the show started in 1997 it has made its mark by targeting celebrities and politicians as well as targeting gay marriage and religion, with one movie under its belt and 12 seasons it seems the popular television series will take anyone or anything on.
A motion has been filed against an episode which Moscow television station 2×2 broadcast in January saying that the episode showed signs of extremist activity. “In accordance with the conclusions made by experts from the court investigations committee, a claim has been filed against 2×2 for its broadcast of an episode of South Park,” said Valentina Titova from regional prosecutors.
South Park is from American cable channel Comedy Central and the show is dubbed into Russian for broadcast into the country and shown all over Russia including on the channel 2×2 which broadcasts into Moscow and St Petersburg. For us Australian viewers we can catch Cartman, Stan, Kyle and Kenny (if he is still alive) on SBS Monday night’s at 8:30.
