When All The Network’s Just Give Up…

feature photo

Over the last couple of weeks mostly since the Olympic Games have been over you would be forgiven for thinking that the three main networks have decided to give up showing any content made for television. The amount of movies that have been put on our screens have reached epidemic proportions to the point of overload and raise the question to as to why we should bother even watching free to air.

Sunday night’s used to be movie night on all the networks with Network Ten leading the way a few years ago by making it their ‘event night’ and placing the series Law and Order on. As a consequence the other networks have followed and Sunday has now shaped up to be one of the highest rating nights, and as the first night for the weekly ratings the week can be won or lost on this night.

The low rating night of Saturday is understandably the best night for movies with a lot of people out on the town for the night, therefore a much cheaper option for the networks with the same fate scheduled for Friday nights now that the footy is over for both AFL and NRL.

Below is a list of the movies on the three commercial networks from Sunday 28 to Monday 6 not including high definition channels and afternoons, this list comprises of 25 movies which is a lot of programming hours. This time could alternatively be filled programmes that have been previously promised but have not been delivered or have been postponed till summer non ratings.

The Animal (Nine)
Women Vs. Men (Seven)

Monday
The Triangle (Nine)

Wednesday
Cabin Fever (Seven)

Friday

  1. All the network’s what?
    Sunday night’s what?
    Movie fan’s what?

    :P

  2. I don’t have a problem with movies being shown on TV, but am more concerned about the high rotation that a certain number of titles are shown (particularly at Channel Ten). There must be thousands of movies at Ten’s disposal and they seem to roll out the same half a dozen over and over. Channel Seven at least seem to put a bit more variety in their movie selections
