Get Ready To Release Your Inner Bogan…

feature photo

Rebel Wilson returns to the small screen this time in a comedy of her own for SBS called Bogan Pride set in the town of Booneig. The show revolves around the typical humour used by Rebel Wilson if you remember her work in such shows as The Wedge and Monster House.

The show follows the life of Jennie Cragg who has to deal with constant teasing about her weight while trying to gain the attention of her class mate and neighbour Nick, she must compete for him with the school ‘skanks’.

At the beginning and end of each show it will have a musical number with the first episode based around a public pool where we are introduced to some of the characters. As well as the antics that take place within the school ground, and we are introduced to Jennie’s home life with her overweight mother and aunty who seem to be constantly bickering about events that happened in the past.

As is the case with almost all the characters Wilson takes on she pokes fun at her weight which to some people could be seen as a way for her to be dealing with it, but this site is about the TV show and not how she lets out her feelings. However because many of the jokes in this first episode revolve around weight, it will be a worry if this continues throughout the whole series as it will get a tad repetitive and signs of that could be felt in this one episode alone.

Bogan Pride certainly wont be up there with that other classic Summer Heights High and quite frankly is no where near the same quality, but it is definitely something different and from left field. Viewers will either love or loath this comedy there is simply no fence sitting on this.

Bogan Pride can be seen on SBS 9:00pm on a Monday night.
