ABC3’s first two week’s of programming revealed…
Today the ABC released the first two week’s of programming to screen on its new dedicated children’s channel ABC3 from 6pm on December 4. As noted earlier the channel will close down each night at 9pm and will then resume programming at 6am in a similar fashion to current arrangements on ABC2.
Programming for both week one (only 2 days, Friday 4th and Saturday 5th) and week two can be downloaded in two special edition’s of the What’s On The Tube Printable TV Guide below.
The first programme to screen on ABC3 will be Prank Patrol, a show unique to ABC3, with opening night only containing three hours of programming before closing down for the night.
Below we will also be running a poll to see if you or your children will be watching the new channel from the ABC when it launches at 6pm on Friday December 4. Also a reminder that a special live entertainment programme “Countdown to 3” will air on ABC1 at 5pm on December 4, this is when Prime Minister Kevin Rudd will throw the switch to activate the new channel.
ABC3 - November 29 - December 5, 2009 (Week 49) (1st Week) (801).
ABC3 - December 06 - December 12, 2009 (Week 50) (2nd week) (687).

I honestly think it’s time… for ABC2 to go 24-7.
Like I said on my Twitter account (Jeffmister), kids & teens don’t go to sleep at 9pm – they stay up way past that. ABC3 (& ABC2 while we’re at it) should extend to 24 hours – the kids channels on Foxtel go 24/7, why can’t ABC3 & ABC2?
Because any parents who actually care for their kids will put them to bed at a reasonable time. Kids need sleep and tvs are not parent substitutes.
It is shocking how bad the programming will be on the ABC3, where did all the extra funding go? RollerCoaster on the ABC1 has really suffered the last year or so too.
The majority of the content will clearly be repeats of series, that have already been repeated to death on the ABC1/2. It looks like several new series will be repeated, later in the day too. Much of the new content actually seems to be smaller shows (10-15 minutes).
The programming for RollerCoaster isn’t stated, although I doubt it will offer anything much better.
Do we really need a series like ‘Prank Patrol’? I don’t think the ABC should be encouraging pranking at all.
The ABC actually offered more new content and variety, when RollerCoaster had different series each weekday, followed by RollerCoaster on the ABC2, which offered several exclusive series (old and new). And that was only a few years ago.
@kuttyswood – ABC 3 will not go 24/7 because abc hd would suffer and not be able to be broadcast in hd for some shows.
maybe abc 3 will be new stuff when ratings return?
There are no good shows on this channel! What happened to Horrible Histories, Chalk Zone and so many other great kids shows. “My Goldfish is Evil” is about the best show, and it is still pretty average.
round the twist and lizzie mcguire woo
oh my god what horrible shows. What ever happened to catdog, ahhh real monsters, rockos modern life, daria, angry beavers, rugrats, gumby, animals of farthing wood, superted, fairly odd parents, ren and stimpy, samurai pizza cats, hey arnold, danger mouse, widget the world watcher, captain planet?
What I was hoping for was shows for my smaller kids that play on the weekends, my kids won’t watch any of those shows and I needed something esp on Sunday for them, I’m disappointed here
Pre-School age pogramming can be found on ABC2 between 6am and 6m on weekends, and 9am to pm on weedays…
