ABC3’s launch night attracts children from all over Australia…
The launch of ABC3 on Friday night has delivered the national broadcaster some encouraging results with the channel reaching 15% of 5 to 12 year olds in metro cities since launch day. The introduction programme on ABC1 which featured Prime Minister Kevin Rudd activating the channel attracted a five city total people audience share of 192,000.
Once the switch was flicked on ABC3 the channel launched with 70,000 viewers for the first hour of programming which included the shows Prank Patrol and CJ the DJ. The ABC3 website also experienced a traffic boom with 3000 children signing up to the site’s ‘Club 3’ and 44,000 people viewing the site over the launch weekend.
Director of ABC TV Kim Dalton said “These figures are fantastic and just confirm what we have been saying for quite a while now Australian kids want their own free to air channel. The response to the first three days of ABC3 make all the hard work worthwhile.”
