Today was a historic occasion for Australia with Prime Minister Kevin Rudd saying sorry to Aboriginal and Torres Straight Islanders for the Stolen Generations. To mark this occasion all five television networks broadcasted the speech live around the country using the same feed provided by the ABC.

Despite reports in today’s The Australian newspaper, the ABC’s new ABC1 logo will not be fully replacing the famous ‘worm’ which has become a national identity for much of the 52 year history of ABC television.

Today at 2pm the Nine Network, Seven Network and the ABC broke regular programming to bring the live broadcast of Kevin Rudd’s first press conference. National Nine News also broke earlier in the day to bring coverage of Peter Costello not contesting the Liberal Leadership.

Sunday 14th October 2007 is the day where John Howard took a short drive to go and visit the Governor General to advise him of an up-coming election campaign. The election will be held on Saturday November 24 which means Australian’s must endure a six week election campaign.
