Keeping sport free on television…

Free TV Australia has launched a new campaign to influence the Australian Government to keep sport on free to air television as the anti-siphoning list is reviewed by the Department of Communications, Broadband and the Digital Economy. The anti-siphoning list allows for major sporting events of national significance to be kept on free TV and not exclusively on pay television.

Free TV chief executive Julie Flynn said, “We want Australians to know that the concerted effort by pay TV to make inroads on the anti-siphoning list could result in viewers having to pay more than $650 a year to keep watching their favourite sports. We want all Australians to have access to free sport on TV not just the minority who can afford pay TV”.

Since September 20 the three commercial networks have been airing commercials aimed at delivering this message, each network has a representative, Ten has Nicole Livingstone, Seven has Sandy Roberts and Nine Ray Warren. Free TV Australia has set up a website at keepsportfree.com.au where you can sign the online petition to keep sport free on TV.

Hard to believe Free TV Australia wasted all this money on the Keep Sport Free campaign, when they had a perfectly good website at http://www.savemysport.com.au

Ive got no problem with FreeTV keeping as much sport as they can but if they are going to buy it they should be made to show it LIVE and not just buy it so PayTV cant get it. Also the Government need to change the rules so the sport can be shown on the Second Channel before the Main Channel cause the current setup is stupid.
