New Year’s Eve fireworks & ARIA Countdown on Nine…

This year Australia’s marquee fireworks display over Sydney Harbour returns to the Nine Network after the well publicised Matthew Newton debarcle on Ten a couple of years ago, and the more toned down presentation of the event last year. Leila McKinnon and Cameron Williams along with Jaynie Seal will present the Sydney fireworks display this year which will begin with a family friendly edition at 9pm followed by the main display at midnight.

Between the two fireworks displays Richard Wilkins and Lindsay Rodrigues will present ‘2009 New Year’s Eve ARIA Countdown’ as they count down the 30 hottest ARIA chart hits of 2009 from the year’s biggest recording artists including Pink, Lilly Allen, Empire of the Sun, Lady Gaga, Black Eyed Peas, Beyonce, Jay Z, Miley Cyrus and more.

What toned down coverage from Ten, it seems like the coverage from Nine is far more toned down & really makes Ten’s coverage far more better (the actual event it self is what I mean).

In recent years both fireworks would get a hour of coverage (Family fireworks from 8:30pm – 9:30pm & Midnight fireworks from 11:30pm – 12:20/12:30am) with special performances/features during the shows, now it’s basically here are the fireworks & bye. What a joke!

    • Danny says:

What I meant by that was last year Ten had Kim Watkins and Andrew G hosting the night as opposed to what happened the year before. Ten’s coverage was pretty good, even having the performances like you said. On comparison Nine will just show the fireworks and that is it so it is toned down even further you could say.

Danny, according to TV Tonight’s Advance Guides – the Family Fireworks coverage is from 8:30pm to 9:10pm & the Midnight Fireworks coverage is from 11:30pm to 12:10am

    • Danny says:

Those guides on TV Tonight have been issued about a month in advance, and as is the norm with both Seven and Nine lots of changes happen before the actual day comes with lots of TBA’s included in those guides. I’m going by the Media Release which was issued today by Nine, the 8:30 start might be correct but the actual fireworks itself are at 9pm, and the Dickie Wilkins ARIA show starts at 9:15 and ends 9:45 according to the Media Release. That is why I wait till the last minute to publish our Printable TV Guide, otherwise I could publish them a month in advance, but they would be very pointless by the time the actual day comes along.

From Memory, Tens coverage was more of an event, no? They had musical acts and things right? Nine’s coverage looks pretty ordinary…

Why not ask Kochie and Mel to host in in 2010.
