Spring is in the air, it must be horse racing time…
It’s hard to believe we are nearly already half way through spring and that only means one thing, horse racing and from this Saturday the Nine Network’s racing coverage will begin with the Arrowfield Stud Super Saturday from Royal Randwick in Sydney. This Saturday (October 3) Nine’s coverage will include races three to eight including the four Group Ones: the Epsom (1600m), Metropolitan (2400m), Spring Champion Stakes (2000m) and Flight Stakes (1600m).
Later in the afternoon a special edition of Victorian Postcards will go to air covering everything you need to know about the Spring Racing Carnival and the team will check out Caulfield and Mooney Valley Racecourses.
For interstate visitors or those looking to make it a racing weekend in Melbourne, Glen Moriarty checks out some great places to stay during the Spring Carnival that cater for everyone’s taste and budget. Other Victorian Postcards team members include host Suzie Wilks, Shane Crawford, Kelly Landry and Blair McDonough.
The following Saturday (October 10) the action moves to the sporting capital Melbourne for The 2009 Caulfield Guineas (1600m) once again broadcasting from race three to eight live. On Saturday October 17 it is then time for the Caulfield Cup which will feature races two to nine and is the most important race in the lead up to the Melbourne Cup.
Finally on October 24 Nine will also cover the Cox Plate from Mooney Valley Racecourse covering races two through to nine once again.
At Royal Randwick, Cameron Williams and Simon O’Donnell will host Nine’s coverage alongside Melbourne Cup-winning jockey Wayne Harris. Anthony Mithen and Jo McKinnon will bring you all the action from trackside.
When the racing moves to Melbourne, Tony Jones, Giaan Rooney, Shane Crawford and Emma Freedman will be added to the team. Jones will join Mithen trackside for all the action, with Rooney, Crawford and Freedman reporting on fashion and entertainment.
