YOU’RE FIRED! The Apprentice Australia premier…
Tonight was the premier episode of the Nine Network’s new reality show The Apprentice Australia narrated by Andrew Daddo with the main man in the boardroom Mark Bouris. In what will hopefully be a one off occasion, The Apprentice also screened as a simulcast on new digital channel GO! to try and maximise viewers.
The production of The Apprentice is very slick and it looks like no expense has been spared when it comes to a polished look. The boardroom and reception set which are clearly not real as little nooks and crannies are visible where camera men are hiding look very modern. Also for a bit of fun, watch the receptionist typing away at her computer, it’s very hard to type those all important business documents when just looking at a Windows Desktop screen.
Bouris was quick to stamp his authority explaining what was required of the applicants, they were split into two teams with men taking on the women for the first challenge, the losing team returns to the boardroom to be fired. They were then whisked away to their luxury Sydney beachside property where the show goes into its weak mode, and also in between segments where it seems to take on the role of promoting tourism in Sydney rather than capturing the tension of the contestants.
In this first episode it was Jane who ended up being the first applicant fired after the girls failed to make as much money as the guys in the first challenge. The challenge was to set up a garden maintenance business and offer services to corporate and residential clients.
The fellas managed to take on too much business and as a result finished the corporate client jobs which earned more money. Despite a large pile of mulch clearly in view of the camera the ladies managed to just finish in time the two projects they undertook, but it was not enough to save them from the boardroom.
This show has a lot of positive potential going for it, the problem is that past experience shows that this show doesn’t rate all that well in Australia with both the American and UK versions screening here on Nine and Seven. Additionally the 9:30 Monday timeslot will not help the cause at all, but hopefully with the amount of promotion Nine is throwing behind this it can find a decent audience and can then have a second series produced.
The Contestants…
The Apprentice Australia airs on the Nine Network 9:30pm Monday night’s.
