how to add a pocket to a spiral notebook

all right so I’m gonna show you guys some tips for how to get extra pages into your coil bound planner like this one of them is the way that everybody tells you the other one is a way that you can try though I don’t recommend doing it a whole lot of times I would do it just once probably per planner to keep your planner intact so first off you’re gonna need some sheets to put in your planner I’ve already cut these down to size my planner actually had a table of contents that I didn’t care for so I just ripped it out and figured out exactly what size my sheets need it to be because this is a 9 by 7 planner but my sheets actually aren’t quite 9 by 7 so go ahead and measure your planner if you want the sheets to match up then I just set it on top like this and took my pencil and came in and drew a little circle inside of each of these I think you get the picture there and then came back in with my single hole punch and punched them and I’ve already done this with several sheets here if you don’t want to rip a page out all you need to do is come in here grab your planner line up your sheet and you’re gonna take a pencil and make a little mark kind of in the center here for where each hole is going to go once again I think you get the picture and then you’ll come back in with your single hole punch and punch a hole making sure that your hole is actually more like in this area so you have a sufficient space here to hold your page so the way that everybody shows you is to get your page and once you have your holes punched in it take a pair of scissors and come in and snip snip snip snip and then you can simply snap the page in place I’ll show you that in a minute but for now I’m going to show you a little bit of a bolder way to get some more pages and and also if you’re doing the snapping method it works best to use really thick paper or to put extra tape over here to make sure the pages don’t pop back out again and obviously that’s gonna really add bulk to your planner you might not have the space to add that much in there so what you can do if you have a planner like this now if it’s just one of those spiral-bound planners just unbend the edge and just unscrew it put your pages and easy but you can actually unbend these metal coils if you do it very carefully and very gently and you are going to want to binder clip your pages together to keep all the holes aligned so let me go and grab my binder clips and i will be right back alright I have my binder clips and I’m ready to proceed so you don’t actually have to binder clip it now but it can help just to make things a little bit easier when you’re really gonna want those binder clips is for putting it all back together again and then we’re gonna come in and very carefully unbend this coil piece by piece and you can see my coil is actually kind of already funky it just came that way so these things certainly do not come perfect at all so just very carefully grabbing onto each individual piece and unbending it now metal becomes brittle as you bend and unban been back and forth so right now I’m familiar enough with metal I can tell this is gonna be absolutely fine if it starts to feel brittle or you find any snapping stop do not proceed and I don’t recommend like I said doing this a whole bunch of times per planner but it certainly can work so then we’re just gonna pull until we can carefully start to remove this coil taking care not to bend it so much the I’m gonna be able to get it back in shape again so I’m just gonna continue going and meet you once I have the coil completely out right easy-peasy the coil is now out of the planner and at this point I’m going to go ahead and unclip my planner and put the extra pages where I want them to be in the planner so I’m gonna go ahead and do that and you do the same and I’ll meet you back here in just a moment okay so I have my pages added I have all the holes aligned over here if you need something to help with that just taking like a bent paperclip and sticking it through can kind of help you line things up everything is clipped down I have my covers and I am ready to get this back together again so I like to leave the cover separate and start threading through the holes like that then I can come in and start threading through the holes it’s way easier to do when you’re not leaning funny over a table while you’re trying to film make sure that you’re not missing any of those back pages like I said this is gonna be way easier for you to do come on in there coil and then you’re just gonna put I’ll fix in a minute and then you’re just gonna put your back cover on bring the coil through and close it back up so like I said kind of an awkward position for me to be doing this in right here so I’m gonna go ahead and get this reassemble and I’ll meet you again in a second so here we are all nice and bound back up again with my additional pages I wanted this blog stops tracker page that’s available as part of my free planner printable I wanted more blank grid pages as well and even though this planner has some reflection pages I wanted my particular reflection pages with this grid dot behind it because I find I can write much more neatly what I’m writing on a grid dot so they’re all nice and in there super easy the planner binding is absolutely fine the like I said you might not want to do this like every month maybe just once or twice per planner now the other way that everyone shows you to add pages that I mentioned before I’ve punched the hold and cut the tabs all you do is come in and you just press these into place like this and if you’re using cardstock or you’ve lined the edge with some tape even washi tape they do hold fairly well but there’s still a greater risk of coming out and they tend to get caught and bent and if you start adding a whole bunch of really thick tape over here on the side that bulk is gonna really really add up and decrease the amount of pages that you can add to your planner so I encourage you to go ahead and add a whole bunch of pages at once using the unbend your binding method and then just add in extra pages using that quick and easy method as needed so I really hope you’ve enjoyed learning how to add pages to your coil bound planner I hope you stop by and download my free printables and I look forward to seeing you again soon
